Recruitment: Children In Care Council

Here is an update from the Team at the Children In Care Council…..

We had a successful relaunch last Tuesday 24th October, with several young people, foster carers and practitioners attending. It was a great afternoon of positive interaction, together with a very inspiring presentation from one of our care leavers. We also looked at the Council’s current pledge for looked after children and how we could reword them into a more child friendly perspective. We will be looking at this in more detail over the coming weeks, together with the young people who come along to our Children in Care Council. It’s important to us that we hear the young people’s voices and be able to respond to them.

We have also listened to concerns raised about the timing of our sessions and in future we will be holding the sessions from 4:30 to 6:30pm for all ages. Therefore, if any young people from your networks wish to attend, they can come along at the earlier time of 4:30pm rather than 6:30pm.

We also have some exciting and fun ideas to plan for future activities for the Children in Care Council. We’d love to have some of our looked after students come along and join us. The next session is due to take place on:

4:30PM TILL 6:30PM

Upcoming dates: Tuesday 5th December 2017, 4.30-6.30pm

Please encourage young people to attend, have a chance for their voices to be heard & make a change for Looked After Children across Croydon!!!

The Children in Care Council (CiCC) for Croydon is being relaunched this autumn to strengthen the voice of young people who are looked after. The purpose of the Croydon CiCC dedicates space for young people in care where their views, ideas and proposals are listened to by the Council through the Corporate Parenting Panel.

In this forum young people will be given a chance to communicate their views and have a say on decisions which impact them.

Recruitment for the membership of the CiCC is now open and we are planning to officially re-launch the forum during the October half term week. The initial sessions will seek to establish a membership that is representative of Croydon’s young people through two age categories; 8-12 and 13-18, young people over 18-24 with additional needs are welcome and those who would like to support as peer volunteers are also encouraged to get in contact.

Recruitment for the CiCC is now open and on a continuous basis. The next sessions will take place on the 26th September, 1oth October and the official high-profile launch takes place on 24th October. Sessions will then take place fortnightly thereafter.

For the CiCC to function in a way that improves outcomes for looked after young people, it is important that information about this opportunity reaches all of the young people in care to whom it is relevant.

What we would like you to do:

Please share this information with the young people who you work with (directly or indirectly) as soon as possible and invite them or those who look after them to register their participation, express an interest or forward any enquires to the Youth Engagement Team via the contact details below.
